Science Week
Posted on 14/03/2025This week, we have embraced Science Week throughout the whole school.
The week began with a fascinating talk for Year 10 Triples by Andy Tate from the Institute of Physics. The aims of the session are to build general scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills.
Our primary students enjoyed a daily explore competition with a prize for the first class to respond and our Year 2 classes enjoyed their ‘curly wurly’ experiment!
Our secondary students were captivated by a diverse range of hands-on activities and experiments; Year 7 studied ‘beak adaptations’, Year 8 studied the ‘evolution of lungs’ and Year 9 studied ‘predicting human palm adaptations’. This week, our house competition featured the much-loved virtual escape room!
As part of Science Week, we explored the fascinating journey of growth and change and one of the activities that our students enjoyed was ‘Guess the Baby – Science of Growing Up’. We invited all staff members to bring in a baby photo of themselves; children and staff had the exciting challenge of matching each baby photo to the correct staff member, using their observation skills to spot similarities and guess who’s who!
Today, some of our Year 8 students enjoyed the KS3 Science Live trip at the Emmanuel Centre in London. This enrichment trip will have given the students the opportunity to see and hear five of Britain’s top scientists who are all working at the cutting edge of their specialisms. The primary aim of the event was to inspire and generate a greater enthusiasm for science amongst students moving closer towards their GCSE.
Science Week has been a resounding success!
