Alban Learning Partners’ Student Conference
Posted on 25/03/2025“On Tuesday 25th March, we had the amazing opportunity to attend this year's ALPS conference for all SRA prefects, for us to further improve our leadership and communication skills by engaging in seminars, discussions, and interactions alongside students from surrounding schools. The event began with an inspiring talk from Lauren Banham - an advocate for human and planetary rights. She shared her experiences, including her journey to the Paris Peace Forum, where she contributed to global discussions on peace and sustainability. Her speech also touched on the challenges of public speaking and how to overcome them, which resonated with many students.
Throughout the day, we attended two student-led seminars, an hour-long session in which head students, prefects, or eager pupils led interactive activities and presentations. We were given the opportunity to voice our opinion on certain issues, such as “Is social media ever good?” or “Can we ever have an opinion?” Engaging in these debates helped us develop confidence in sharing ideas, refine our ability to articulate viewpoints, and strengthen our teamwork skills.
At the end of the conference, we had the opportunity to share our own advice with our peers. It was a chance to not only reflect on our growth but also to support others by exchanging tips and experiences, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that defined the entire event.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the conference was seeing students - people similar in age to us - leading discussions with such confidence and authority. Watching our peers take charge and create an engaging atmosphere showed us that we also have the potential to grow these skills and reminded us to challenge ourselves and step into leadership roles with greater self-assurance.”
