WWII talk examines role of ethnic minorities

2 May 2017

Military historian visits Year 7s as part of 'All in it together' project.

A group of Year 7s attended a fascinating talk by visiting military historian and former advisor to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Jahan Mahmood, as part of a St Albans district council project entitled ‘All In It Together’.  The students learned about the part played by ethnic minorities during World War II, examining the contribution of Indian, Pakistani, Jamaican and Polish soldiers in the fight for British freedom.   A highlight of the talk for many was the opportunity to take a closer look at Mr Mahmood’s 'travelling military museum', a collection of military memorabilia, including army helmets and replica grenades and rifles.
