English at Key Stage 4

We currently follow the AQA specification and students will usually take both English Language and Literature qualifications at GCSE. The course is rigorous and develops skills in reading, writing and speaking and listening through a range of text types and activities. This is a linear course and students complete four examinations (two for Literature and two for Language) at the end of Year 11 as well as an internally assessed speaking and listening presentation, which they complete during the last week of Year 10. The texts that students study for Literature are: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Romeo and Juliet or Macbeth by William Shakespeare and DNA by Dennis Kelly.
