Drama at Key Stage 3

Year 7 and 8 students attend one drama lesson per week and have the opportunity to explore a wide range of drama skills including vocal skills, physical theatre, characterisation, mime and movement.  Students explore topics such as time travel, superheroes, ghost stories, soap opera, pantomime and bullying and they also use plays as a stimulus.

During Year 9, students are able to choose Drama as an option and will enjoy a more advanced course that prepares them for the GCSE.  Students will partake in devised work, building on the skills developed during Key Stage 3 Drama and exploring the new skills of Commedia and Mask Work.  They will explore a range of topics such as unsuitability and teenage violence and respond to a variety of stimuli including music, film, poetry and visual art.  Students will also study play texts and visit a professional production in order to write a theatre review.
