The overriding objective at Samuel Ryder Academy is to enable each individual, whatever their ability level, to develop to his or her maximum potential. To do this we have a stimulating and challenging curriculum and we carefully monitor each pupil’s academic progress.
Key Stage 3
In Year 7 and Year 8 all students study a broad range of traditional subjects and have access to a wide range of activities which will enhance their learning.
In Year 9 students are able to have some choice over which subjects to focus on whilst maintaining a broad range. This gives them the opportunity to begin to focus on those subjects that they may wish to take at GCSE level.
Key Stage 4
In Year 10 all students still study the core curriculum which involves preparing for GCSE's in English Language, Mathematics, Science (2 GCSE's) and RE. PE and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education are also in the core curriculum and all students have lessons in these areas.
In addition, students can select four optional subjects from any area of the curriculum including: Art, Dance, Drama, Food Technology, Geography, History, ICT, PE, Product Design & Sport.
If GCSE courses are not appropriate for any student, then alternative courses will be available so that achievements can be recognised.
