Year 1 travel back in time at Mountfitchet Castle

4 April 2017

On Tuesday 28th March our Year 1 classes visited Mountfitchet Castle, a unique open-air museum.

Built on the site of an original motte and bailey castle that stood on the historic 10,000 acres site at Stansted, Essex, Mountfitchet is a true-to-life reconstruction that allows visitors to travel back in time 900 years to witness life as it was in Domesday times.

The children had an opportunity to explore the castle and wander through the Norman village hidden behind the castle walls, wander into the many houses and buildings and feel the ambience of life long ago.  There was also a chance to discover the numerous siege weapons displayed around the site and walk amongst the free roaming animals, including fallow dear, sheep, goats and chickens that inhabit the site.

All the children were impeccably behaved and a credit to our school.  A thank you to the parent helpers without whom the trip would not have been possible.
